Remember the Exxon Valdez oil spill? Perhaps you heard that scientists used a particular bacterium which ate oil and converted it into plain water and carbon dioxide. Problem was, it did not work fast enough. Other scientists figured out how to get the bacteria to utilize oxygen better which let them work much more quickly.
